Altenew Flowers on Vellum

I couldn't  resist I have posted both flower cards here using one of the Altenew Flower stamps. One of their originals I think but still my most popular one. It has such an elegance about it. And just check it out here.

I have white embossed on plain vellum then coloured with zigs. The two palest pinks and greens and don't they look stunning. You can see the gold from the cardbase through the vellum. I ended up purchasing the dies for these as they really look spectacular cut out and its a lot less fiddly for me.

In this instance a good purchase, as I often hold out on purchasing the dies for flowers or animals preferring to see if they are easy to fussy cut first. With a flower like this one it is easier to use the die so I'm glad I changed my mind.

I have coloured and cut out two blooms and placed both so they are a bit off the face of the card base.
The card base front is a Papertrey purchase where you get a selection of card fronts with gold or silver finish on them. They are quite elegant and sit there waiting to be used up like many of my extras.
I finished the card off by gluing the flowers in place using dark areas or where the white embossing would cover it. I was looking at sentiments and debating what to do and this one I have used just 'worked' for me. I love it.
Then disaster hit. See those beautiful little dots on the gold. They are little gold glitter dots and looked so pretty .......NOT. They were cheap and in this instance they were 'you get what you pay for'. They started slipping on the gold, the backing glue became slimy and left crappy marks, tried to clean up and ended up smearing the gold on the card panel. Yep I pulled the card apart carefully, made a new base again and re-glued everything.  (And threw those crappy gems away, the ones I used I cleaned the glue off and attached with fresh glue, but decided it just wasn't worth the effort for the rest so I de-stashed).

Now for the next one: Check this out I LOVE IT

Yep its Zigs and vellum but this time its gold embossing. Just click on the photo to enlarge and check out the beauty of this.

I am so enjoying coming up with colour combination with gold embossed, silver embossed and white embossed vellum. This time I have used the teal green and I think it was phthalo blue which gave a wonderful contrast. Two greens, pale green and olive green. In some sections you can see double lines in the gold embossing as I went to stamp I partly dropped then continued with the stamping but it turned out great.

And this flower works beautifully with this gold foiled panel. I ended up trimming another mini flower to add to the first one so that it actually went over the top so it looks as though the flower grew over the top of the card. A few sparkles here and there and the gold die cut 'with love'.

I am very pleased with both these cards.

Stamped, heat embossed, Zig colouring, Die cuts -would like to
add the blue flower card 'with love' to this challenge.

Using the zigs that were not getting used, the panels for the front of the cards from Papertrey annnnd the embossed flowers on vellum that I did too long ago to remember when I did them.

Would like to enter the pink and green card for this challenge.

Thank You Card with vellum and Zigs

First off I started playing with zigs with no water added on vellum.  Love love how they look and in the next few posts you will see some wonderful (well I think they are) results. Let me tell you if you have Zigs sitting there not getting used then try with vellum, with no or very little water so the vellum doesnt warp. We cant get vellum as heavy weight here in Australia as is available overseas so I cant say whether that works better or not with water.

What you are seeing here are some butterflies (Hero Art which I seem to use a lot) and a white embossed Hero Art background which had been cut up as the part that was missing had been used with paint and water and just warped too much. The image is embossed on a pale pink vellum, the butterflies on plain. With the butterflies you can see what happens when you dont clean the stamp often enough when used clear ink, the lines get wider and wider. Even rubbing with your hand will lift enough to start fresh.

Now onto this card. I took that scrap of vellum that had been mostly ruined and just coloured down the left side. I used two Zigs for the flowers and two Zigs for the leaves. Kept the main colour very light, actually thats the lightest pink then the next pink up. I colour the whole image with the pale pink, then just add a smidge of the next pink at the place where you want it darkest. I then come in again from the top of the petal adding colour and moisture and push down into the darker colour. If you feel you have too much dark then just wipe your brush on spare paper til light again and go back in. Turned petals I left just dark.

Check out the colour it looks soooo pretty with the white embossing. I fussy cut and I can tell you it wasnt that fiddly, the main thing to watch is that the vellum doesn't tear as it very thin in some parts.

I then added glue to areas on the back that I felt would be covered by darker colour or the embossing, just lots of little dabs. Finished it off with a few pink enamel dots that matched in colour and my beautiful Penny Black sentiment 'Thank You'.

I feel like sharing all the others as they are so beautiful...... but I'm babysitting tonight and tomorrow and then down to mum and dad's for a few days then its my son's Engagement Party and I wont have much time to make new cards so I better stretch them out, a bit.

Thanks for coming to visit and I hope you come again soon.

Magical using heat embossing, vellum and copics.

Hi everyone.
As some of you start your weekend,
in Australia we are celebrating 'Mothers Day'
I'm here today to share this week's challenge as guest designer for this month over at
JUST US GIRLs
For this week's challenge, it's Trend Week #343 and we want you to use vellum.
With so many people discovering the joy of using vellum and the latest Online Class
that is also showing people more ways to use vellum it should be a great challenge.
So here's the card that I came up with for this challenge:

I've always enjoyed using vellum so today I have used a piece of pale orange vellum.
I then stamped with Versamark Ink the Hero Art background stamp. Although a background stamp it is smaller than the standard size background stamp. What you see here is not much smaller than the full design.

I embossed with gold embossing powder/ I love using embossing powder on vellum it always looks so crisp and elegant. But you need to remember to use your emboss buddy to wipe down the vellum so you don't end up with random spots all over your design. Heat your gun up a bit before using it and move your heathen around quite a bit to avoid burning the vellum.

I coloured on the back of the vellum with my orange and green copics but ended up also colouring on the right side. I know we are not meant to colour on heat embossed areas with copics so I was very careful to to keep the tip of the marker as away from the edges as possible.

I even came in with a little bright pink which just won't show up here because of the vibrancy of the orange vellum. I love how it turned out and used the sentiment 'magical' because I felt thats what it looked like.
All finished off with some bright pink gems.

So now you need to go over and check out the Just Us Girls Challenge blog to see what the rest of the talented ladies have come up with using vellum!  Hope you can play along with us!

Thanks for coming to visit and I hope you come again soon.

Happy Birthday to you

I needed a quick little card for someones birthday so delved into my pile of coloured images. I have coloured in so many images that I reckon I could make cards fora year without putting a dent in them.
There is nothing so relaxing and portable as stamped and printed up images and Copics and pencils.

This is a beautiful little stamp I have had for many years. She is from my LOTV collection and was amongst the first little girl stamps I had ever seen. So cute, must use them more.
Here she is very basically coloured with copics, very little in blending but enough for bit of shadow. A little bit of Wink of Stella added to flowers, and socks and ribbons and paper dots, alright lots of Wink of Stella added.

I made the card base by adding some pattern paper to the card front then added the coloured image. Stamped the Birthday sentiment (regret adding that gem to the 'i' as it looks wrong now so will go and try to remove carefully later).
A few coloured gems added where needed to cover the dreaded black smudge that jumped onto the card front from nowhere.

Challenges:
Copics is colouring so going with the Topping

I didnt know Birthdays were Holidays but apparently they are
so I am declaring next Tuesday a Holiday.

Thanks so much for coming to visit and I hope you come again soon.

Hello Floral Card

This is the card I started out trying to make a pastel card. As you can see it was a dismal fail as a pastel but boy I love the colours I ended up with. I love this stamp, no having to work out where the flowers should be put, its all laid out perfectly for you. The only thing I found difficult was because I do love embossing in white on watercolour paper so seeing where to add the colours is a wee bit fiddly to start with but quickly remedied. I find adding the lightest of washes gives me a good guide to build from.

Using Canson Watercolour paper means I could use my Zigs and lots of water so I just chose a light and darker in each colour  and then went from there.
When I had finished I want to add a colour for the background and decided to go green rather than blue, I used the lightest green but found that it was rather vibrant in your eye bright so added a bit of olive around the outlines and washed it into the green.

Then I decided to use this brilliant Hello word die. At first I added a gold inlaid layer and it looked quite good but the gold mirror card and my fingers don't really like each other much. It stuck to my fingers as I tried to inlay and I fiddled around so much (it was like one of those cartoons you see where as it unsticks in one spot it sticks at another, I can laugh about it, now). It ended up with so many glue fingerprints it looked crap, so I decided to add another layer and then I decided to add the original and I fell in loooove. I know you can hardly see it but IRL you can and its just perfect.

I then used the stitched rectangle die that leaves the stitches on the cut and the negative. I decided to cut the cardbase and inlay the watercoloured image rather than use the piece the watercolour was cut from (only because the rectangle moved and the negative looked very crooked.
All finished  off with some pretty green sparkles.

Inlaid dies mmmmm

Congratulations in Pastlel Colours

Boy do I struggle with Pastels. I really hope these are pale enough to refer to them as pastel. Tried so hard to keep my colours light but I had to add shadows and definition so the colours started getting darker.

This was my first attempt and as you can see it certainly didnt make the pastel ranks as I got heavier handed with the colours and it became a brights to be left for another time.

This is my second attempt at pastels and I feel I got as light as I can with watercolours.
This stunning collection of flowers came as a stamp, this stamp:

Beautiful, easy to stamp. I did heat emboss in white which meant it was a bit harder to work out where the flower started and ended and where the leaves were but by keeping my coats very very pale to begin with I left myself room for error.

After I finished painting, I added a bit of blue for highlight and washed it away to nothing. I added a bit more shadow build and lightweight with my Coloursoft Pencils. Finished it off but using the stitched Rectangle die then inlaid it back in so it remained one layer. Added a silver narrow card 'Congrats' die.

So what do you think??? Pastel enough??

Fabulous and a close call

Well I have a couple of challenges I want to enter this card in. But one of the challenges closes in about 50 minutes, could I cut it any closer. I was so busy fiddling around with my other cards I suddenly thought, mmmmm whens that challenge end, ohhh 1 hr 20 minutes.
Nothing like a bit of pressure and I love how this turned out.

My Inspiration: Michele Ferguson

What an inspiration she is. I have yet to get where she is but I am happy with what I ended up with. Thank you Michele for your wonderful inspiration.

For the flowers I went for the flowers from the Stampendous set and used the hydrangea white embossed, water coloured with soft blues and purples and die cut. I used two and layered them with some leaves. Added a ton of Wink of Stella.

In this photo the 'f' from fabulous is sticking out a bit but thats only cause the glue was still wet.
I loved the shape Michele embossed into the card front and I decided to try this, first attempt and it worked so I'm chuffed. Added a very fine strip of purple card stock to the edge much like Michele but I went finer as I had kept the purple lighter on the front of the card.
Finished off with the 'Fabulous' die cut sentiment in mirror silver cardstock.

The first challenge is

Flowers stamped and heat embossed and then die embossed on card rather than die cut.

Flowers stamped and Heat embossed, watercoloured, die cut and
embossed die rather than diecut.

Thanks for coming to have a look and I hope you come again soon.
