Reminder Post for The Flower Challenge Birthday Bash #61 Use a Shape

Its our 5th Birthday and we want you to join us and celebrate just because you can. Its such an easy challenge, Use a shape that does not mean you have to make your card a different shape. You can if you want but it also means you can add a shape to the front of your card and it meets the criteria.

Not only is it our 5th Birthday but we have lots of prizes to give away so come on, give it a go.

For my reminder card I have watercoloured this beautiful rose then I used 2 different sized Hexagon stitched dies, the smallest I think in the set and cut out the rose then attached again with fun foam adding depth to the pieces.

I saw this amazing card from my friend Therese at Lost in Paper and I could not resist trying this same technique. I know my card was not as successful as I had hoped but it was so worth
the idea.

Though I used a new card base to lay the tiles I decided to also add parts of the image that are below the die cut layer as I felt they needed to be there to finish the card properly.
I finished off by adding the Best Wishes die cut and some gold gems.

Thank you so much for coming to check out my card, now its time to go see what the rest of the Design Team have been up to at The Flower Challenge

Lots of Christmas Cards to Share

Ok this post is all about Christmas Cards. Five different cards and a different look for each.

In most instances I am using images I coloured in earlier this year or even last year as I went a year without sending Christmas Cards.

This card has three images. The puppy from MFT stamps

The grumpy fox from Taylored Expressions and

the bear from MFT stamps. The sentiment from Stamplorations and the peekaboo windows from Pretty Pink Posh. A fun card.

This card I have made the background out of Distress Oxide from Tim Holtz, then the deer is done with gold embossing paste, stencil from Funky Fossil Stencils. the sentiment sorry not one hundred percent sure but I think Mama Elephant.

This background is rose gold embossed vellum. Santas and little girl MFT stamps and sentiment is wooden and coloured with Copics (company no longer around sadly)

This next sweetie is Stencil from Hero Arts done with Distress Oxide and glitter paste. Sentiment and image from Mo's Digital Pencil.

This card I heat embossed the stamped image with Silver then blended pink oxide over the top. For some reason it pulled colour from the heat embossed image and made the pink look more lilac yet the heat embossing was done ages ago. Anyway the background stamp is Hero Art and the beautiful snowflake die cut image is also from Hero art.

Handful of cards

I thought it might be nice to share a handful of cards that I have shared on Instagram but not my blog so you can see what I have been up to if you don't go to Instagram.

Let me know if you want to see more as I am happy to add them, if there is anyone out there interested.

These are all digital images that I have coloured in with Copics.
This one was given for free at the start of the Covid Pandemic and Im
sorry to say I cant remember who drew it as the file came
without any copywrite information.

This wonderful Bee is drawn by Mo from Mo's Digital Pencil and
anyone who knows me knows I love Mo's artistic talent. I many many of her images
and never enough time to do more than one colouring as there are so many more
that need colouring. Isnt this Bee the cutest.

This little sweetie was wonderful to colour and I have used for a Birthday card but could also look amazing for a Christmas card I think. Now don't forget to check out these backgrounds.
They are all added after I have coloured the image.

Now we have this wonderful Babe floating with her G&T I'm sure.
Now after I print up my image to colour in and then decide to add a background I found that the best way to protect the image was
To take a piece of plain vellum or even baking paper, draw around the image, no need for detail and then fussy cut this. I use either a glue that will dry tacky and can be used for holding things in place temporary or a double sided tape that does the same just around the edges of the image. I attach this to the image, do my background with a stencil or brush, add paste if needed then remove cover as soon as possible so it doesnt become attached to the image (paste can be a little fiddly so the sooner the better)

And you end up with backgrounds that just work so well with the image.
This stunning Fairy is from  Aurora Wings  and was such a pleasure to colour.

I hope you enjoyed seeing just some of the cards I have done recently.

The Flower Challenge #61 -Add a Shape and It's our 5th Birthday

Welcome to The Flower Challenge! This is the challenge that celebrates cards using floral images. Our challenge for October is ... 'Use a Shape'

It would be great if you could add our cue card above when entering our challenge. Of course most of all have fun!

As you have already noticed by now, we are  happy to announce it's our 5th Birthday too! wow the time has gone so quickly. We hope all you PETALS have enjoyed taking part in all of our  FLOWER challenges over the last 5 years. We have certainly loved seeing all your glorious floral cards in our gallery!

Anyway to celebrate we are giving away not one but 11 PRIZES this month. The prizes are all listed on The Flower Blog Challenge, they will be allocated at random to our chosen prize winners. A very big thank you goes out to all our kind sponsors (some who have sponsored us a few times already over the years) and also some of the DT are generously giving away prizes also.

Please can I ask that you leave your country after your name below your card when entering so the DT who are giving their own prizes to countries they live in (due to postage) can allocate prizes more easily. Example  (Aileen AUS), thank you ;)

The fabulous Emily Midgett from Sixth Street Sundries is our Guest Designer this month and you can see her fabulous card at The Flower Challenge. You all know I love Emily's art and if you haven't seen it yet check our my previous post, where I coloured up a Tropical sketch.

Now onto todays card and this month its so simple : Add a shape -so add what you want in any shape  or make a shaped card. Flowers are the only criteria, how cool is that.

I decided to colour this sweet digital image from Stamplorations and it comes laid out as you see it with a section to stamp what you want.

But I decided to cut out the shape itself, added to the front of a blue cardbase that I then cut to flow with the image and finished it off by adding acetate so the card could stand upright.

I love how it turned out. I'm sorry I cant give you the Copic colours for this one as it was coloured a little while ago.

Instead of stamping a sentiment I added this sweet sentiment that I die cut in silver glitter and the backing piece in vellum. I really love how it turned out. So thats my shape and now its time to go check out all those amazing cards from the Design Team and Emily at The Flower Challenge

Thank you so much for coming to visit

Floral Card & A Christmas Card

I have been sharing all my cards on Instagram and not worrying about doing blog posts mainly as its much quicker but also as I felt with the changes with Blogger and what people are doing that many go to Instagram or Facebook rather than blogs.
But I just couldn't resist sharing this card then decided to add another so I am going to see if I can keep up with the blog and if visits and comments warrant it I will continue.

This stunning floral image is another of Emily Midgett's stunning one off releases.
I think I can honestly say it's my favourite as I love the tropical blooms. Check out Emily's blog
she draws for a number of different Card Supply companies like Honey Bee Stamps and Pinkfresh.

She also does a one off release each month that includes different florals done for Copic &/or Watercolour.

Now to my card I have Copic Coloured the flowers then added a little bit of sparkle with Wink of Stella.
I cut the panel with a die from  'The Greetery' which I love as they include three different sizes and two different styles. Anyway I then added a layer of fun foam cut with the same die to add a little hight to the piece before adding to the card.
Finishes off with a die cut sentiment 'with love' and a little silver glitter paper heart.

the colours for the flowers are
the main flower : R05  R02  R12  R01  YR0000
smaller flowers : V06  V05  RV55  RV52
Big leaves : BG09  BG57  BG 53
smaller green leaves:  YG17  YG05  YG01
Yellow centres Y17 Y02  Y11

Now we have this super fast Christmas card.
A layer of vellum with Rose Gold Foil dots attached then added
a sweet puppy from  a MFT stamp set called Happy Pawlings,
currently out of stock but they always restock quickly.

Puppy is coloured with Copics but not recently so I cant tell you the colours used.
I then added this brilliant sentiment that is from a business that is no longer in business
sadly. Its a fine wood cut and I have coloured it with Copics to give a monochrome look.

I wasn't sure if the paper was too distracting for the sentiment but I was happy with it,
it meant another card finished for Christmas so thats it.

On the house renovations, we get the kitchen bench on Tuesday so that will signal the end of all renovations inside the house ( cheers, party poppers, streamers and balloons here) and John has already turned his mind to the backyard and fixing issues out there. It is never ending, but I am one very happy little Vegemite, because everything I ever wanted to do in the house has been achieved and I love it.

So thank you for coming to visit and I hope to see you again in a couple of days with The Flower Challenge Blogs new challenge for this month.

Also its our Anniversary...... 5 years. 5 amazing years of the Flower Challenge and we have prizes galore so thats two reasons to join us.

One as its our Anniversary and Two because there are prizes, lots of prizes.
